Horizons of Higher Education

The recommendations of the NKC are really impressive and seem s optimistic. But they should not merely remain recommendations and should be manifested at earliest without much political debate.
NKC has framed its recommendations keeping in mind the five paradigms of knowledge which are i think ideals....
But the problem with our systen is that we always talk big but manifest too little. e.g. UGC established an apex body in 1994 called National Assessment and Accreditation Council shortly called NAAC with a sole aim of bringing excellence in the colleges of Higher Education and thereby it was made mandatory for all Universities and College to get itself accreditated.....initially the response was sluggish from all quarters but with time there was a rush from Universities around the whole country and as on today most of the universities and colleges have been accreditated......
Even the college where i have been working since last 15 years has been accreditated which means that we have been certified as institute par excellence by NAAC. But being a part of the college and to the sheer surprise i can very boldly say that there has been not a single degree change in the college infrastructure, syllabi, administration etc between pre and post accreditation. which means that the whole process of accreditation is either superficial or has failed to deliver the results it was supposed to.
So whenever we are talking about some improvement or change we should be rather practical than ideal than only we will be able to deliver the real goods. i have so many more examples to be given here but i think this one is enough.
I think NKC is well aware about this facts....i wish all the success to NKC...!!!!!

The "Swarnim Goal"- "Swarnim Gujarat"

Swarnim Gujarat- The brain child of Chief minister of Gujarat is i think one of the most optimistic goals set forth by him.
The tag line of this goal is "Each one of us has both; good and evil virtues. Those who decide to focus on the good ones succeed in life".
Under this scheme each Gujarati (All those who reside in Gujarat) has to be in pursuit of excellence in his/her own field. For example, those who are in the profession of Higher Education are supposed to equip themselves with the basic proficiency in computer/internet and functional English so that they can be 'fit' faculties to keep abreast of new knowledge and to empower the learners by keeping them informed about latest developments in their respective disciplines.
Keeping these factors in mind, the office of the commissioner, Higher Education, Department of Gujarat has formulated the project of "Knowledge Management Programme for Faculties (KMPF)". The main objectives of the project are i)Language objectives, ii) E-skills objectives and iii) Professional Development objectives
I think if the Government of Gujarat succeeds in achieving these goals the future is not far when Gujarat will be No. 1 in every respect among all the states of India.
"Thus by developing Gujarat we will together help India develop"
